TYPES OF
HAZARD/
EXPOSURE
ACUTE HAZARDS/
SYMPTOMS
PREVENTION FIRST AID/
FIRE FIGHTING
FIRE Highly flammable. Many reactions may cause fire or explosion.
NO open flames, NO sparks, and NO smoking. NO contact with strong oxidants and incompatible substances (see Chemical Dangers).
Powder, alcohol-resistant foam, water spray, carbon dioxide.
EXPLOSION Vapour/air mixtures are explosive.
Closed system, ventilation, explosion-proof electrical equipment and lighting. Do NOT use compressed air for filling, discharging, or handling.
In case of fire: keep drums, etc., cool by spraying with water. Combat fire from a sheltered position. Fire fighters should wear complete protective clothing including self-contained breathing apparatus.
EXPOSURE
PREVENT GENERATION OF MISTS! STRICT HYGIENE!
IN ALL CASES CONSULT A DOCTOR!
  • INHALATION
  • Burning sensation. Cough. Laboured breathing. Shortness of breath. Sore throat.
Ventilation, local exhaust, or breathing protection.
Fresh air, rest. Refer for medical attention.
  • SKIN
  • Redness. Burning sensation. Pain.
    Protective gloves. Protective clothing.
Remove contaminated clothes. Rinse skin with plenty of water or shower. Refer for medical attention.
  • EYES
  • Corrosive. Redness. Pain. Severe deep burns.
Face shield, or eye protection in combination with breathing protection.
First rinse with plenty of water for several minutes (remove contact lenses if easily possible), then take to a doctor.
  • INGESTION
  • Abdominal pain. Burning sensation. Shock or collapse. (Further see Inhalation).
Do not eat, drink, or smoke during work. Wash hands before eating.
Rinse mouth. Induce vomiting (ONLY IN CONSCIOUS PERSONS!). Refer for medical attention.
SPILLAGE DISPOSAL STORAGE PACKAGING & LABELLING
Evacuate danger area! Consult an expert! Ventilation. Collect leaking and spilled liquid in sealable containers as far as possible. Absorb remaining liquid in sand or inert absorbent and remove to safe place. Do NOT wash away into sewer. Do NOT absorb in saw-dust or other combustible absorbents. Do NOT let this chemical enter the environment. (extra personal protection: complete protective clothing including self-contained breathing apparatus).
Fireproof. Separated from strong oxidants, food and feedstuffs, alkalies. Cool. Keep in the dark. Well closed. Store only if stabilized.
Airtight. Unbreakable packaging; put breakable packaging into closed unbreakable container. Do not transport with food and feedstuffs.

    PHYSICAL STATE; APPEARANCE:
COLOURLESS LIQUID , WITH PUNGENT ODOUR. TURNS PALE YELLOW ON EXPOSURE TO LIGHT AND AIR.

    PHYSICAL DANGERS:
The vapour is heavier than air and may travel along the ground; distant ignition possible.

    CHEMICAL DANGERS:
The substance can presumably form explosive peroxides. The substance may polymerize due to warming and under the influence of alkalis with fire or explosion hazard. The substance is a strong reducing agent and reacts violently with oxidants and many other substances causing fire and explosion hazard. Attacks plastics and many other substances.

    OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE LIMITS (OELs):
    TLV: 2 ppm; 5.7 mg/m3 (as TWA) A3 (ACGIH 1997).
    MAK: class IIIB (1996)

    ROUTES OF EXPOSURE:
The substance can be absorbed into the body by inhalation of its vapour, through the skin and by ingestion.

    INHALATION RISK:
A harmful contamination of the air can be reached very quickly on evaporation of this substance at 20░C.

    EFFECTS OF SHORT-TERM EXPOSURE:
Tear drawing. The vapour irritates strongly the skin and the respiratory tract, and is corrosive to the eyes. The substance may cause effects on the lungs , resulting in impaired function. Exposure far above the OEL may result in death. Medical observation is indicated.
